Abstract
This paper presents an optimal design of Variable Structure Load Frequency Controller using Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm. The optimal design provides a simple systematic way for obtaining optimum feedback gains and switching vector for VSC. It also includes a new method to reduce the chattering associated with the Variable Structure Controllers (VSC). The proposed method has been applied to a single nonreheat area. Comparison with the literature shows the effectiveness of the proposed design approach.
