Abstract
This paper clearly explains the problems associated with matrix converters and extends the concept of Z-source to matrix converter. The Z-source converter can achieve buck and boost operation for both frequency and voltage. Comparisons of PWM technique that can be implemented for Z-source matrix converter have been discussed. The simulation and experimental results are given, and it verifies that the Z-source matrix converter can produce high voltage transfer ratio and less THD by suitably implementing the PWM techniques.
