INVESTIGATIONS ON NEW THREE PHASE MULTILEVEL INVERTER WITH REDUCED SWITCHES

Abstract

This paper presents a three-phase seven-level inverter with sinusoidal reference and trapezoidal reference for various Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) strategies are like Phase Disposition (PD), Phase Opposition and Disposition (POD) PWM, Alternative Phase Opposition and Disposition (APOD) PWM, Carrier Overlapping (CO) PWM and Variable Frequency (VF) PWM. The main work of this paper is comparison of Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), VRMS, VPEAK for various modulation indices using both references. This multilevel inverter uses only eight switches while compared conventional multilevel inverter. The performance of proposed works is simulated through MATLAB/SIMULINK. It is also ensured that COPWM strategy is determined to perform righter since it provides relatively higher fundamental RMS output voltage.
