OPTIMAL ALLOCATION AND VOLTAGE STABILITY IN ELECTRICAL NETWORK BY USING A STATCOM

Abstract
The main goal of this paper is to define the best location for the STATCOM to improve voltage stability in 59-bus power system network. In daily operation where there are all kinds of disturbances such as voltage fluctuations, voltage sags, swells, voltage unbalances and harmonics, STATCOM is modelled as a controllable voltage source. The Newton-Raphson method algorithm was implemented to solve power flow equations. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Harmony Search (HS) methods are used to find the optimal location of STATCOM.
