Inc,
This book attempts a unitary treatment of fundamentals and up to date solutions for vehicular electric power systems on land, sea, air and space applications.
It has characteristics of both a textbook and a monograph. So it addresses a large audience, senior undergraduates to graduate students and research and industrial engineers and faculty interested in more electric vehicles of the future in the context of rapid development of various means of transportation with less fuel consumption and less pollution.
The authors are very qualified to write such a book, given their long standing research affiliation and outstanding results.
The book is structured into 13 chapters: introduction to electric power(13pp) ,fundamentals of power electronics(33pp), electric machines(26pp), automotive power systems(117pp), electric and hybrid electric vehicles(41pp), aircraft power systems(8pp), space power systems(50pp), sea and undersea vehicles(13pp), fuel cell based vehicles(47pp), energy storage(13pp), advanced motor drives for vehicles(22pp), multi-converter vehicular dynamics and control(38pp), constant power load effects in ac vehicular systems(27pp) are all devoted separate chapters.
By the length of the chapters indicated above the reader perceives clearly the book hard core: more electric automotive power systems for the future in its multidisciplinary facets.
The authors present a well informed broad view of the subject and add part of their own research results relevant for the domain.
For the sake of balance, in face of this very good book, I would recommend, for an eventual second edition, the introduction of a strong chapter on rail vehicular technologies, more space to electric machine performance design and control for vehicle applications and to aircraft electric power systems.
All in wall, this represents a very good and timely contribution to a field in full swing - more electric vehicles- which deserves to be on the shelf of every electrical and mechanical engineer, diligent student and faculty interested in the state of the art and new trends in transportation for the future.
