An Improved Single-Inductor Triple-Output Converter with Predictive Control

This paper discusses the analysis, design, and control of an improved single-inductor, triple- output converter with buck, boost and inverted outputs. The inverted output is obtained without feeding back power to the source and hence minimizes circulating energy and consequent losses. The topology minimizes the number of switches and operation both in discontinuous and continuous conduction modes is possible. The design considerations of this converter are discussed with an example and simulation results confirm the analysis. A simplified predictive control of the converter is performed and the regulation of the converter against line and load variations is confirmed through simulation results. Hardware validation is done using a Spartan FPGA system and results are presented. The topology and control are generic and can be scaled to more outputs.
