Improvement of MV/LV Power System Planning Using Integrated Optimization Technique

A novel optimization technique is proposed for optimal planning of medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) areas of distribution system in this paper. The target is to obtain the optimum ratings and locations of distribution transformers and substations along with the route and type of LV conductors and MV feeders. Both uniform and non-uniform load density areas are discussed. Linearized Biogeography Based Optimization (LBBO) technique is used to solve the previously stated problem optimally. The results obtained are compared with the results of Genetic Algorithm (GA), Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization (DPSO) and Biogeography Based Optimization (BBO) techniques.
